In 2006, both my Great-Grandfather Andes and Grandfather Lyons were diagnosed with colon cancer. My Great-Grandfather Andes, now 94, was treated and is doing much better. My Grandfather Lyons is currently undergoing treatment for both colon and liver cancer. As a result of these events I have decided to honor my family members affected by cancer by undertaking a
2,000 mile bicycle ride from Denver, Colorado, where I currently reside, to my family’s home town of Denver, Pennsylvania. The two towns that have been a major part of my life will now be the focus of an adventure that will honor my family and those affected by cancer.
I will begin riding in June of 2008 and will follow Highway 6 from Denver, Colorado to Denver, Pennsylvania with an arrival goal of July 4, 2008. Along the way I plan to promote awareness of cancer, how it is treated and the importance of testing and early diagnosis. I am also planning on visiting cancer centers and hospitals along my route as well as meeting others that have been affected by cancer. My ride is part of the
Lance Armstrong Foundation Grassroots projects and all the funds raised will go directly towards this cause.
Every day another childhood hero is diagnosed with cancer. Please help me in my efforts to help find a cure and honor those that are affected by cancer. If you are interested in supporting my efforts, a tax deductible
donation can be made directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
